Why Folkenomics?
Economics is often perceived as difficult, filled with jargons and mathematics, making it seem inaccessible to many outsiders. But is economics really that difficult?
Not if it's explained in plain terms. Most of economics are common sense, but, often made to look difficult. People express strong opinions on various issues like politics despite no formal education in political science, yet many shy away from economic debates. However, economic issues significantly impact our lives, from job prospects to wages and pensions.
Besides, the boundaries of economics have spread far beyond that. Nowadays, economists use economic methods to explain crime, healthcare, environment, love, ethics and morals, happiness, politics, etc. The belief that economics is a 'science' with only one correct answer discourages non-experts from thinking critically about it. But economics is not a precise science in a sense that it involves various theories, each with different moral and political judgments.
What do we want?
Our goal is to provide diverse economic perspectives, stir up debate and argument, provoke your critical thinking and judgement, considering different values and goals, as well as provide fundamental economic knowledge.
